Modern culture seems to no longer see why men and women need each other, especially when it comes to the structure of a family. God designed the family so that both men and women’s contributions are needed.
You probably already know by now that I have a weekly podcast called Being Human.
In recent episodes, I’ve been venturing into what some might consider dangerous territory these days. (The fact that this subject has become such a controversial issue is baffling.)
“What am I discussing that’s such a contentious topic?” you ask.
Strangely enough, it’s the fact that we are created as males and females, and that both a masculine and feminine presence are ideal for the healthy formation of a child.
One of the narratives promoted in our modern culture is that there is no ideal family structure; that the presence or absence of both, opposite-sex parents is not actually needed or necessary.
But God designed the family to be the primary place of formation, and there are unique ways in which both males and females contribute to the healthy development of a child.
From our parents, we are meant to learn what it means to be a man or a woman, as well as how to treat the opposite sex and how we should expect to be received by the opposite sex.
It is in the environment of the family that we were designed by God to learn about who we are and who we are created to be for others (even if in real life it does not always go as perfectly as planned)!
For this reason, the Church calls the family the “school of love” because it is in the family that we are meant to be educated in knowing our identity as a beloved child of God as well as how to love others.
In Episode #11 (Needing a Mom and Dad), Episode #12 (Different by Design), and Episode #15 (Getting the Full Set of Tools) I dive into a discussion about how God has created us in our human development to need each other, to need both sexes, and why it’s important that we have both a mom and a dad for our healthy formation as a man or a woman!
